Dramatic fact of Israeli forces attack to the humanitarian flotilla mission of the Free Gaza Movement, brought in the limelight the continuing tragedy suffered by the sieged Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. It is an imperative need for the International community to pressure in the Israeli government to the lift the inhuman blockade of Gaza, while it constitutes an infringement of international law on collective punishment that mainly, affects the children that constitute the 60% of population. The siege that lasts henceforth more than 1.000 days, worsens an already burdened situation. According to the (FAO) last report, the standard of living in the Gaza Strip has reached unacceptable levels with the 61% of population experiencing food insecurity caused by the increasing poverty and unemployment. The restrictions in imports imposed by Israel have strangled the agricultural sector of region consequently resulting to the deterioration of food insecurity. Foods rich in proteins as meat are particularly inaccessible for the residents of Gaza. The families resort to mechanisms of adaptation: such loans or they totally depend on the aid provided by humanitarian organisations acting in the Gaza. Since January 2009, fishing ships from the Gaza are limited to fish within a distance of three naval miles resulting fishery decrease at 47% and therefore it is unable cover the needs of the increasing population of Gaza. The number of Palestinian refugees that do not have access in potable water, food and basic products of need has been tripled since the beginning of the siege, in June 2007. This given situation has been rising worryingly, indicators of malnutrition (increase of cases of children with growth delay and underweight), increase of infantile mortality rate and high rates of anaemia in children and pregnant women. The Israeli blockade has dramatically undermined the health system with serious lacks in pharmaceutical and sanitary material, medical equipment, and medical personnel training and the restriction of exit from the Gaza Strip of patients suffering serious diseases which cannot be treated there. Hospitals have also been seriously affected by the military attack (2008-2009) and the blockade. In total 15 out of 27 hospitals in the Gaza Strip have suffered destructions and 43 out of 110 first degree health care infrastructures have been destroyed completely. No infrastructure has yet been repaired because of the prohibition of import of constructional materials. The blockade strangles substantially every side of life of population of Gaza. The increasing isolation and infelicity of persons in the Gaza Strip suffering should by no means be continued. Fair Planet decided to continue its support to the Palestinian population with the launch of a new mission providing medico-pharmaceutical material and assistance to the infrastructures of health of the “Union of Health Care Committees”.
