A six-member delegation from the humanitarian organization FAIR PLANET, with the participation of World pharmacists and the Medical Association Magnesia, returned from the Gaza Strip by implementing the first part of the program entitled «Medical and Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Gaza Strip, 2010». It is true that following the pressure of the international public opinion, Egypt has opened the Rafah crossing. However, the entry of foreign missions and humanitarian organizations, remains extremely difficult. The Egyptian authorities did not allow entry to Gaza through the Rafah crossing of the medical, pharmaceutical and administrative staff of the mission, resulting substantial cancellation of scheduled tasks and meetings. The next phase of in-service training for Palestinian doctors in a large hospital in Athens and the Greek parallel mission of specialist doctors in Gaza (Surgeons, neurosurgeons, orthopedic and other disciplines) to take difficult medical cases. Despite the efforts of the Greek embassy in Cairo only two members of the mission were allowed to enter Gaza. The two volunteers delivered medicines and medical equipment to the medical infrastructures of The Union of Health Care Committees (UHCC) as well as financial support to orphans and disabled children of the war. The blockade which runs now over 1.000 days, continues and aggravates the already dramatic state. The majority of the population of Gaza is facing food insecurity due to the increasing poverty and unemployment. Fair Planet possesses audiovisual material and evidence on the current situation in Gaza which will be posted on the website within days.
